Match Report

Round 13
25-06-2010

League:

Garville V SASI

Our second time taking on SASI was not as successful as we had hoped it would be. After a close 1 goal loss in the first round we came out with a positive attitude and the drive to win however were unable to capitalise and come out on top.

Some difficulty delivering the ball past such tall defenders made working the ball into the circle difficult however with Stacey’s movement and Abby’s holding ability we were able to keep the score line close. The team used their fitness and continued to put up a strong contest for all four quarters however not being able to effectively reward defensive turnovers meant little opportunity to dominate.

The centre court work rate of Carla and Hannah was a positive aspect of the game, combining well to work the ball down the court. The new defensive combination of Anna and Kirk helped keep us in the game, taking many rebounds and intercepts in the goal third.

Unfortunately basic skill errors and not enough pressure caused us to lose the match which was a real disappointment to the team. Congratulations to Anna becoming a part of the league team, she is a dedicated and skillful player with so much potential. Overall an unfortunate round however like every week the squad will pull themselves together and give their best this Friday.

Reserves:

Garville Vs Cheerio

Unfortunately, we were unable to put a solid four quarters together and as a result did not have our best score line of the season. The major problem was the fact that we were unable to stop their drive down the court something that we had managed to do so well the week before. We also struggled to get the ball into the attacking third. Though saying this there were still a number of positives to take out of the game.

• Our commitment to the ball throughout the entire game I thought was really good especially in defence.

• Our decision making and passing into the circle throughout most of the game was good

• Our second quarter was strong with a 14-16 score line showing that we have the potential to stick with a top four team

o It’s just a shame that we couldn’t continue on like this

• And our drive out of defence on a whole was strong.

Thus for us to become a more consistently competitive team we need to trust in each other’s ability, and focus on, developing the skill to dictate play when the ball is in our hands. At the moment the opposition seems to be able to corner us were they want us to be. This puts extra pressure on every single player down the court. We have the potential to be a strong determined winning team if keep at it!

I would also like to say congratulations to Sophie Weir for playing her first quarter in reserves. She came on in the last quarter in GA and showed great potential. Thanks also to all the other inter players for sitting on our bench week in week out.
