Friday 2nd July saw the Garville state league team facing Newton Jags - a team pushing hard for a top 4 spot in these final weeks of the Subway Cup.

Our last encounter with Jags had not been a good game and we were looking forward to the challenge and pressure of self improvement. Unfortunately we got off to a slow start, both on the scoreboard and as evident on the court against a speedy and accurate Jags side. We copped a lot of body in this physical encounter and worked hard to execute our skills under the intense pressure that was being forced on us. Stacey was a great option in the first quarter providing some great leads into the circle.

Hannah and Carla worked tirelessley up and down the court in C and WA respectively and were really starting to gel across the goal third. However our own mistakes let us down, bad passing, stepping, offsides and we were down 36 - 11 at half time.

Third quarter we presented probably the worst quarter of netball we have played all season and returned to the bench at 3/4 to regroup and come out firing. Fourth quarter was a vast improvement which saw some great turnovers from defence, and followed up with quick and accurate transitions down the court.

We finished off 69 -24, a less than pleasing result but certainly an important teaching game. Every player took something away to work on at training, where we will be put through our paces with fitness work, video analysis, specialist sessions with Michelle Den Dekker and court structure work.

Next week sees us face off against Contax.
