Garville State League Vs Contax

Friday night saw Garville League side take on Contax, currently sitting 1st on the ladder and a definite benchmark for the competition. We knew this was going to be a tough game but felt well prepared after a good week of training and a great pre-game talk from our Sports Psychologist Jenny Williams.

Fromt the first whistle we were competitive and matching it with the League leaders. The attack end of Abby, Stacey, Carla and Han took a lot of bumps and knocks and stood up to the pressure. We went into quarter break 4 goals down.

Contax came out firing as you would expect them to and we began to falter with a few basic skill errors which Contax capitilised on stretching the margin out even further.

We stuck to our game plan and remained positive. The talk on court and from the bench was fantastic and definitely rattled the Contax girls.

Defence was great and streamlined despite Megan Lokan only moving into League team this week, and changes at half time which saw Kate being replaced by a 'flu-ridden' Nat.

There were lots of turnovers across the court, but unfortunately we didn't turn them into goals so the score line stretched ever further. Post game we were able to analyse Tonia's stats and see that in the first 6mins of every quarter we were even with Contax, but then let ourselves slip in the second half of the quarter.

We finished off the game strong, but Contax prevailed 64 tp 19.

While we have taken a lot of positives away from the game, there is a lot of work to be done between now and Saturday's clash against a skilled Cougars side.
