We went out hungry for a win, and this showed very much in the first half. At half time we were down by only 2 goals and giving our opposition a bit of a scare. As a team this was the best we have played we trusted each other, drove for the ball, contested hard and had fun. Though unfortunately we were not able to sustain this pressure and consistency for the entire 4 quarters and ended up going losing by 17 goals. The second half saw our opposition revert to a much more physical game, this style of play flustered us and as a result saw us get frustrated at them and each other. Giving them the upper hand and for the first time in the game dictate play.

Even though we were not able to come up with the win there were a number of positives come out of the game including:

• Our intensity on court

• Our commitment to the ball

• Our voice on court was the best it has been this season

• Our decision making in all areas of the court

• Our drive out of defence

• Our ability to stick with and fluster a top 4 side for the majority of 2½ quarters

In the first half each of these dot points were consistently demonstrated, one of the disappointing things about our match on Friday night was our inability to continue this effort into the 3rd and 4th quarters. Even though we were able to show glimpse of control we dropped our heads and that really showed both on and off court.

For us to become a more consistently competitive team we need to trust in each other’s ability and believe that we are good enough to win! I am positive that over the remainder of the season the reserves will be able to come together and rattle teams not only for a half but hopefully a full game allowing us to come up with some wins. As with all our previous games this season I have no doubt that we will learn from the lose and hopefully be able to upset them next time!
